Take the time to visit this Chinese Buddhist Monastery, it's a wonderful place with wild peacocks roaming the grounds. Everyone speaks English. Monks and nuns are required to wear their 5 strip robes as they are the traditional work robes. Very nice Sangha community.
Bhikshuni Mission statement – Making Visible the Sangha Presence in America
Bhikshuni offers traditional Buddhist teachings and practices as taught by Buddha and teachings of respected monastic Vinaya Sangha. Encourages local communities to seek out Sangha and help to establish residences for both 2-part Sanghas. Bhikshuni and Bhikshu Sanghas live and teach Buddhism in accord with the times and conditions in which actually exist now while upholding their Vinaya ordination tradition of now in excess of 2,500 years old.
Bhikshuni encourages Sangha to join in local secular and inter-religious community activities to participate in well-being events (health, education, environment, diversity, culture, religion) so people become accustomed to seeing them outside monastery walls in every situation like themselves.
Bhikshuni encourages these types of people to seek them out: 1. those in need regardless of whether they consider themselves to be Buddhists or members of a faith group or not to seek Sangha for counseling or other traditional Buddhist services; 2. those new to Buddhism or to the traditional Sangha also seeking to study Buddhism and its culture – including scholars, students, curious or tourists; 3. those wishing to join as laity or form a Buddhist community (4-part with laity and monastic with a 2-part Sangha).
Bhikshuni encourages Sangha to be able to communicate in English so most American can walk the Path with increased skill and benefit. Sangha are also interested in meeting the needs of the area in which they live through welfare and relief assistance and if needed travel abroad.
People who are interested in putting into practice Buddhist teachings, if they study in an active and meaningful way benefits extend to not only themselves but to the people around them as well. Those struggling to live in communities filled with conflicts once they have become stable by their Buddhist practice and with increased skills can make significant impacts upon their conflicted communities, begining and ensuring reductions of conflicts to a predictable peaceful life. It starts with one, you; then when your stable in your practice it increases naturally around you - not with conversion or persuation but with visible difference being seen and noticed. Pretty soon you see others like you and your combined efforts create cumulative ripples outward and thus a Buddhist community awakes in our town or yours.
Bhikshuni invites you, dear reader, to actively support Sangha through joining a community or forming one or by generous donations of land, buildings for shelter; food, clothing, medicine and financial support (small regular donations go a long way in providing Sangha support for the basic 4 requisites: clothing, food, shelter and medicine. Read on for donation information. Check out our links.
